A central work created specifically for the Oberstrass Church is a modern interpretation of the traditional three-part altarpiece. In the Christian context, the triptych often symbolizes the Holy Trinity and serves as a narrative sequence of images. While traditional triptychs depict Christian iconography, Joos deliberately avoids this in her work. Instead, she presents two halved suns symbolizing the course of the day. This depiction makes use of the triptych’s narrative structure but shifts the focus to the natural rhythms and cycles of life. In doing so, it emphasizes the church’s historical role as a place of meditation and reflection for all visitors, regardless of religious affiliation.
Through the immersive experience of Joos’ colorful symbols and motifs in the spiritually charged space of the Oberstrass Church, visitors are encouraged to discover their own spiritual connections and to let go of preconceived notions.
